Music Farming is a nonprofit organization that provided a grant to Boulder Arts Council to provide hands-on music experiences form members of our very rural community.  We have a variety of activities happening to provide more musical opportunities for Boulder residents and children.  

Upcoming Music Farming Events:

Wednesday, May 29th - Music Skills at Boulder Community Center at 7pm

Tuesday, June 4th - Drumming and Dancing at the Boulder Town Park Pavilion 6pm

Summer Music Camp

Instructors: Kate McCarty and Patrick Briggs

Explore and experiment with sound in this four-day summer camp and learn about what makes music “music”. Record sounds from your environment and play around with these and other digital sounds to create a song using everyday objects. Learn to use musical instrument and songwriting apps on iPads, make your own “bucket bass” instrument, play rhythm games, and get up close and personal with a few traditional instruments, including piano, accordion and voice. 
Ages: 6-14
June 24-27 11:00-1:00 at Boulder Elementary School
$20 refundable deposit on iPads.

iPad/Phone Music Creation

Instructor/Facilitators: Jordan Badger & Patrick Briggs

Get familiar with apps and make music on your touch screen device.  Learn more about instrument and synth apps on your phone or tablet.  This workshop will focus on creating music, solo or in a group setting using simple to play apps.
Learn:  
To plug into sound systems.
Time signature, basics, and metronome settings.
Preset looping techniques.
Basic improvisation ideas.

Date will be set once interest is determined.

These workshops are intended for folks 13 years and older. Younger students will have the opportunity to explore making music on a tablet through the Summer Music Camp.

Drumming 

Instructor/Facilitators: Bernie Wuestefeld and Jordan Badger

Learn the basics of drumming with a group.  Instruments will be provided but you are also welcome to bring your own.  The first event will be held at the Boulder Town Park Pavillion on Tuesday, June 4th at 6pm.

Ensemble Workshops

Instructors: Patrick Briggs and the Band

Privately rehearse your song of choice, original or cover with a band ready to play it.  Sing or play an instrument at the Boulder Community Center.  Learn basics on leading a band, using a microphone in a live band setting and just getting comfortable learning songs with the band.  
30-60 minute workshops available.
Ages: 14 and up
Dates available from 5:00pm to 8:00pm based on sign ups:

Vocal Workshops

Instructor/Facilitator: Jessica Frogley

Group and individual vocal instruction will be offered to increase your ease and confidence while singing.  Have fun exploring how your entire body supports singing. Learn exercises for warming up and strengthening your voice. Improve pitch, breath control, and expand your vocal range. Depending on group interest, we may also explore choral pieces and singing together in harmony.  For those interested, there will be an opportunity for individual lessons focused on your goals and/or selected songs you want to sing.

Group Sessions
Groups of no more than 12 students will meet once a week for 4 weeks working on the foundations of embodied vocal performance.
Group 1: Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23, 30, 7-8pm 
Community Center
Group 2: Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31, 7-8pm 
Community Center

Individual Sessions: If you wish, participants in Group Workshops can follow up with individual lessons, working one on one with Jessica. Individual lessons will provide participants with the opportunity to work on specific singing goals and songs.  Songs will be provided by participant. Individual lessons will be scheduled directly with Jessica to take place in August.

Performance: Interested singers will have an opportunity to perform at a Community Concert sometime in November or December. Exact date and time to be announced later.

These workshops are intended for folks 16 years and older. Younger students will have the opportunity to explore singing through the Summer Music Camp.
